Will Kalshi stop offering sports event contracts to New York residents before September 15, 2026?
On July 31, 2026 New York Attorney General Letitia James sued KalshiEx LLC, seeking about $36 billion and a shutdown of its sports markets in the state, calling them an illegal gambling operation. A federal judge declined the CFTC's emergency request to block the state case, and on August 12, 2026 the CFTC issued an order directing Kalshi to keep its event contracts open. As of August 17, 2026 the contracts remain available to users in New York. This market assesses whether access for New York residents is cut off before September 15, 2026.
Conditions
Resolves YES if at any point on or before 23:59 UTC on September 15, 2026 Kalshi ceases to accept new orders on sports event contracts from users located in the State of New York, established by an official statement from Kalshi, by a court order in force requiring it, or by reporting from Reuters, Bloomberg, the Associated Press, CNBC or The New York Times. Resolves NO if such contracts remain available to New York users through that time. Temporary technical outages and scheduled maintenance, restrictions applied only in other states, delisting of individual contracts while sports markets overall stay open, and court orders that are stayed before taking effect do not count.
