Will FC Ordabasy change its official name after privatization?

Reports suggest that FC Ordabasy may change its name as part of a broader strategic shift aimed at increasing international recognition and strengthening ambitions in European competitions. According to journalist Olzhas Baibossyn, the club could adopt an English-language name in the future. The idea reportedly reflects the new ownership’s desire to position the team more prominently on the international stage. Earlier in February, the club was acquired by Kazakh businessman Shakhmurat Mutalip, who also serves as president of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation. The new leadership has already announced ambitions for the team to compete for the championship in the Kazakhstan Premier League. Historically, the team briefly used the name “Ordabasy United” for one season, which suggests that a similar branding strategy could be considered again. The uncertainty lies in whether the new ownership will officially implement a rebranding or ultimately retain the traditional club name.
